Site Upgrade

As some readers have no doubt noticed, gyaku has not been updated in the past few months, and the update rate had already been decreasing as of the Fall of last year. Although we have a queue of content to add to the site, various factors have prevented us recently from contributing the site at the rate we would have hoped.

One of the major reasons that gyaku has not been updated has to do with the software we are using to run the site. We are planning to transfer the backend of gyaku from wiki (PukiWiki) to WordPress, in order that we can incorporate various other functions which up until now have been lacking, most importantly commenting (available in PukiWiki but not equipped with serious SPAM filters, hence unusable) and trackbacks. As we pushed ahead with this project through 2007, the lack of commenting has become an increasingly significant problem, preventing us from getting to know the community (both Japanese and English) who reads gyaku, and also preventing this community from engaging with the authors and translators of articles, and with interviewees.

Making the transfer to WordPress involves a fair amount of work, but we hope to have a working site up in the next few months. In the meantime some content will continue to appear here, and we will of course continue to accept submissions.

Thanks to all those who have been reading gyaku up to now, we hope to be communicating more with you soon.

Sincerely,

The gyaku team
