Submissions

We welcome submissions. We do not impose any strict boundaries on what content will and will not be accepted. However, as a general rule, if a mainstream news/media outlet would publish it, then please send it to them before you send it here. Topics of particular interest are: forgotten history, hidden patterns, absurdity, personal accounts, political analysis, commentary, prose, artwork, manga, reviews. And anything else that you can think of, as long as it fits somehow in the general gyaku theme.

Please before writing an article for gyaku check your idea with us first. Since the themes in gyaku are a bit all over the place, it's easier for us to judge whether something "fits" if you let us know what you are thinking of before you actually write it.

Send your submission ideas to the email listed below.

For article submission, please keep in mind that not everybody in the gyaku editing team uses Windows. We'd prefer that you send us either plain-text or rich-text files, or PDF, rather than DOC files. If you have graphics, please include them in the email, and if needed specify any formatting preferences. We can also handle referencing, please use numbered references: [1], [2], etc. with a references list at the end of the article. Please check your spelling and grammar before you send the article.

With your submission, also include the following:

  • Please let us know which category you feel the article fits in (if you feel none of these apply, we may be able to create a new one):
    • Perspectives: commentary, interviews
    • Stories: personal accounts, narratives
    • Reviews: book reviews, movie reviews
    • Reports: event reports
    • News: general news stories and/or analysis (generally limited to topics not covered by other sources)
    • Culture: traditions, customs, history, recipes, etc.
  • Also specify which region the article most directly relates to (regions can be countries, cities, groups of countries (e.g. middle east), or any other relevant boundary demarcation).
  • A one or two line summary which will be included on the front page.
  • If the title of the article is long, please include a shorter version for use in menu bars and in front-page categories.
  • If possible, please send one or more pictures with the article. We will use these to create:
    • One image for the front page, exactly 190 pixels in width and between 60-100 pixels in height. (You don't need to size your picture to these dimensions, we can do this.)
    • Images of any size (not too big or they will not fit on the page) to appear within the article text.

We also accept artwork and photos to appear on the front page. These can be of any size, but they will be resized to be 410 pixels wide and not more than 200 pixels or so high (to fit the constraints of the page layout).

Writers retain full copywright control over their work, however we ask that if articles are republished, the original source (gyaku) is mentioned and that the original article is linked to.
